AWAYDAYS TREE MILES SCHEME

The Treemiles Scheme was established by Brian Booth in 2019. Brian decided he wanted to compensate in some way for the ecological footprint made by Awaydays Travel and it has proved a real success.

A surcharge of 0.5% is included in the price of every Awaydays holiday; after each holiday 0.5% of the total holiday’s income is transferred to the Treemiles account with NatWest bank, held in the names of Brian Booth and Jacquie Dabnor (a regular Awaydays client and administrator of the scheme). All the income is then used to purchase trees and hedging plants for the Oare Gunpowder Works Heritage Site and Country Park, situated on the east side of Faversham.

The first year we asked Awaydays clients for a £10 donation to start the project but people were so generous we were able to purchase over £800 of trees and hedging plants and donate another £300 the following year, in spite of no travel during lockdown.

The Friends of OGPW are the people who actually purchase and plant the trees, and maintain the Country Park, under the guidance of the Park Ranger, so we have found it more efficient to make an annual donation of £300 to the Friends. Neither group takes any administration costs so the whole sum is used on plants
