The Beth Chatto Gardens began in 1960. From an overgrown wasteland with poor gravel soil and boggy hollows, it has been transformed into an informal garden harmonising with the surrounding countryside. The gardens are an inspiration to anyone who visits them – the art of planting at its best.

Set in the historic grounds of Wivenhoe Park, this 18th-century house is next to the University of Essex campus. It offers a unique brasserie restaurant, luxurious accommodation, free WiFi and free parking on site.

The guest rooms overlook the manicured gardens and beautiful Essex parkland. Most rooms feature HD TV with Sky channels, designer toiletries, and tea and coffee making facilities.

Guests can dine at the brasserie restaurant (evening dinner included) in the garden wing, which offers regionally sourced produce to bring a taste of France to this corner of the county.
